Kenneth Pennington is Kelly-Quinn Professor of Ecclesiastical and Legal History at the Catholic University of America. He is the author of numerous works including Pope and Bishops: The Papal Monarchy in the Twelfth and Thirteenth Centuries and The Prince and the Law, 1200-1600: Sovereignty and Rights in the Western Legal Tradition, and is coeditor of the CUA Press series, History of Medieval Canon Law. Wolfgang P. Müller, associate professor of history at Fordham University, is author or editor of several publications in English and German including Huguccio: The Life, Works, and Thought of a Twelfth-Century Jurist. Mary E. Sommar, currently a scholar in residence at the Stephan Kuttner Institute of Medieval Canon Law in Munich (Germany), concentrates in her published work on Gratian's Decretum.
