I am not a physicist but, as an avid history and current events scholar and reader, I have a great interest in breaking out of my comfort zone from time to time. Physics is great because it is so devoid of human imperfection - except when we discuss the history of science.This book is a bit of history of science - namely the debate of the issue of black holes and information loss - and a lot of physics theory. It necessarily starts from the beginning of basic relativity, nuclear physics, and thermodynamics. This part is the easiest to understand (being well covered in your average "popular" physics book), and takes up a solid half or more of the book. But that's ok...the theories are put into the context of black hole physics.The last third or less of the book really dives into the most abstract part and the hardest to understand: dimensions, string theory, holograms, etc. I got 75% of the first half, and about 25% of the last half; with about 10% of the last few chapters. Susskind admits that these are hard issues to understand, and he did his level best to write it out. But he is basically trying to put words to numbers, which is well nigh impossible for this field.I think the book's greatest fault is the subject; it's simply not (for me) a fascinating subject. Other books on multiverse, anti-matter, dark matter, and relativity are more interesting - perhaps because they are simply more tangible for my non-physics mind. My BS in physics is over forty years old. This was a great way to catch up. I had forgotten that string theory was beginning to play a big role in nuclear physics. When the book pointed out some of the things that were well proven about it at the nuclear scale, it reduced my scepticism about all the mathematical hard labor being devoted to string theory in order to understand what is happening at much higher energies. As usual, physicist have looked at very simplified special cases in order to make the math tractable and clarify basic processes. The book explains many of these clearly. It is also a reminder that the most advanced human minds barely have the capacity to begin unravelling quantum mechanics and cosmology at their limits, and a lot more humility would probably be appropriate!

This book is not quite what it seems. It is a book more about the conversations and histories of the "Black Hole War" than the science behind the black hole war.The book can be divded into 2 halves. The first half is the bascis of physics (entropy, gravity, relativity...etc) which would probably be hard to digest without some prior knowledge in physics. Then the author shifts gear towards the "war," but spent way too much time dissecting and redissecting the same concepts ad nauseum, while digressing way too frequently to irrevalent side stories/interviews that seem to serve no purpose than to take up pages. With better organization and editing, this book could have easily been 1/3 of its current size without loosing vital information.But my biggest disappoint in this book is, while it does offer a number of insights into the current state of physics, the way he introduces concepts are at best haphazard - he frequently and abruptly does leaps of logic between concepts, and often doesn't fully explain the very concepts he set out to explain. And some concepts he basically just states "so and so did some calculation and found out what I said before is really true!" This is great for him but thats not exactly why I bought this book.In the end, in trying to be do too many things at the same time, what could have been an otherwise incredibly insightful book into cutting edge science failed to live up to its true potential.

A delightful take on the science and process of rationalizing quantum mechanics and relativistic theory. I picked up the base don a reference from Brian Greene's "The Hidden Reality". With many of the "pop-physics" books, I seem to be able to keep up for the first 75%, but it gets pretty bumpy toward the end. This was no exception.Dr. Susskind does a fantastic job of taking the reader from a general understanding of quantum physics and building, slowly but surely, a case for his argument with Stephen Hawking's proclamation that information is lost in a black hole. I enjoyed both his technical descriptions and thought analogies.The real differentiator between this book and many others is the backdrop of the people and places involved. In between scientific insights is a good deal of the social and emotional events surrounding the research. A great change of pace for this type of material.

Because of the cover and certainly the price, I hurried and bought this book. I'm a long-time cook. Yet this Bread book was absolutely far more innovative in selection than I've ever seen. It's in one word a stunner. The recipes are like no other bread book I've seen. Bread doughs that are sweet, savory, regular, French, braids, pretzels, bagels. Along with pizza doughs, donut doughs, also included are many types of coffee cakes, and muffin recipes. This book was so inspiring to me I'm going out this week to purchase the Expressbake Bread Machine! No running out of bread and trips to the store this winter!!!

The author seems to suggest this book is for the beginning bread machine baker which I am BUT starting with the table of contents there is NOT a single item listed that one could accept as a basic bread recipe! Not one!! Doesn't even have your basic white or whole wheat bread! It's not there! Yes, the owner's manual has basic recipes, look at my review of the machine, you'll see my pictures of Oster's "basic recipe" for whole wheat bread! Looks like a giant, 2lb, cancerous tumor!The first two recipes, in the book, don't involve the bread machine for much more than a convenient parking space for the dough. Page 140 shows "Orange Cranberry Whole Wheat Bread". Leave out the orange stuff and you might have a loaf of whole wheat bread BUT what's the loaf size setting supposed to be? Don't know if the loaf is 1lb, 1.5lb or 2lb! Obviously the author is making certain assumptions without advising the reader what the assumptions are. Up to 1968 telepathy wasn't an elective in my high school.However, in the author's defense, I have scoured bread sites looking for recipes and found they too, don't list a bread weight setting most of the time! I didn't buy Oster's top of the line, one has to manually set the loaf weight. Doesn't the author know that?If all of that is not dumb enough, at the end of the book the author offers an email address, feedback@hhfpress.com to write to. Guess what? "Address not found!" Book was published in 2016! What a crock!!!

Not a good book. I was expecting basic, clear recipes for a specific breadmaker, instead this is a collection of odd ball recipes seemingly copied from somewhere else. For a book that says it has "classic" recipes, there is none for white or whole wheat bread. Just weird stuff you'd never make, using coconut oil??? etc. Ingredients wander from cups/spoons to grams, even in the same recipe. One has "add cranberries and walnuts at the end", but these are not listed in the recipe itself. Most recipes say to "add water or flour as needed" - hold it, this is for a specific breadmaker, they should be tried and true and not need adjusting (unless they were just copied from somewhere and pasted here???) think someone threw this together, tacked on a popular breadmaker to sucker folks in, and is laughing somewhere. Its being returned.FYI, the shipping and book quality was fine, not meaning to knock the seller, just the author of the book.

I bought this book as a companion to the Oster Expressbake Machine I bought here on Amazon.First of all, let me say that the recipes are amazing. Of all the recipes I've tried (probably about 1/3 of the book so far), they are all delicious and bake exactly as described EXCEPT for 1 thing: none of the finished loaves fit in this bread oven. All of the loaves rise to the tippy top of the oven and push against the little window on the top. These recipes were clearly not tested for this oven.It would have been much better if there had been an option to scale the loaf (whichever it is! The author never says...) down a bit so it fits.See my attached photo of the Italian Bread I made from the book.

Excellent bread machine cookbook. Even though the instructions are for a specific machine, the instructions are well written and easy to follow with your own bread machine. There is no interactive table of contents which is a disappointment and I deducted one star for this reason. It is very nice to have so many fabulous bread machine recipes in one book. Highly recommend for anyone who likes to bake using their bread machine.

This is a ridiculous book... at least 50% advertizing.The balance may be of interest to some folks... not to me.Hey folks, this is supposed to be a BREAD cookbook, for a BREAD MACHINE.It starts out with Bagels, then progresses to Calzones and Soft Pretzels.Then through three more chapters before it gets to relatively ordinary bread like French Bread.

I would've awarded a 5 star rating were it not for the weird glitch that occurs on some recipes which are written in grams (weight) instead of cups (dry measure). It's like whoever was editing was asleep at the screen. The doable recipes I've tried are worth the price of the book, though I've had to cut back on the amount of yeast to get it just right. I'd sure like to know how the measurement mixup occurred! As odd as it is, I'd buy the book again, knowing its shortcomings.

I got the e-book.It doesn't contain anything in the Table of Contents except the chapter number. You don't know what each chapter contains (sweet bread, savory bread, gluten-free, ect.), the recipes are not listed under the Table of Contents and there isn't any index. This makes it VERY difficult to use. Otherwise I would have given a higher rating.I didn't find anything helpful in the first part as I've used a breadmaker for about 15 years, so am no a newbie to bread making. I got this book to be able to try out different kinds of breads and make the most out of my Oster machine (which I love!)I saw many good recipes upon my first scroll through the book. I won't open the book again until the problem gets fixed - it's pretty much useless right now since the Table of Contents has no content.I contacted Amazon to let them know about the book snafu. Once it is corrected I will update my review.

This thing is like a whole Anesthesia book crammed into a little bible, literally on bible-thin paper. It has so much in there i have to write things down on index cards to find it, but it is a great reference in clinical no doubt -jj

This book is absolutely awesome. I am a student nurse anesthetist and this book is invaluable!! Everyone who looks at it from anesthesiologists to CRNAs say I need to get a copy of this book. This book covers all aspects of anesthesia from co morbidities to trouble shooting complications that may occur while in the OR. This is a clinical must!!!

I really like this book but found the pharm section very weak. For example, the only discussion of IV induction agents is a one page table taken from miller. Those are the drugs that should be covered in detail. Why is there a longer description of ethacrynic acid than propofol?Also the pharm section has several errors and omissions. Suboxone is mentioned but left blank, stating that it's only approved for detox centers. Sorry, but people on suboxone also come in for surgery. Does not have the most recent ACLS guidelines but that was probably a timing issue with publication.The remainder of the book is excellent. Well organized, no irrelevant filler, and well-indexed.

Its a great addition to my library of concise, precise and efficient books. It applies not only to anesthesiologists, but many other specialties, specially ICU. Highly recommended.

As a 3rd year med student this book seems very complete and easy to use. I would definitely recommend it.

Just what I was looking for to discreetly carry into the OR after a couple of years of doing office work. All the little facts about drugs, equipment, pre-op assessments, pre-existing conditions and procedures that are good to review. But at the risk of telling my age, the print is so dang small.

If you are looking for a skulls themed coloring book without all the "Sugar" coating of flowers and jewelled encrusted paisley skulls., But, you do want a more traditional looking skull book with highly imaginative, more rock and roll than pop looking skulls then look no further! I have done all the legwork for you. It was no easy task. My husband doesnt like all those Sugar skulls! He wanted a more manly looking coloring book! 😆 My husband was soooooo excited to get this coloring book for his 57th birthday! It's exactly what he wanted! Everthing about this adult coloring book screams quality. The paper is nice and thick, and each design has it's on separate page. I have included some of his finished drawings. We hope this helps in your quest to find a really cool skull book! He did such a good job I think we might have to take some magnets of the refrigerator to make room for his artwork. These are definitely going up for all to see.

Words escape me when I try to describe this book! Teri is such a talented artist. By far my favorite artist! You 24 creepy beautiful skull designs. Each one unique in its on way. Paper quality is good it's your normal createspace paper which doesn't bother me. I recommend this book for all skill lovers, those that like to get in touch with their darkside, well everyone. Except kids, kids may be scared of the skulls but you decide as a parent. My son will love them. This is really a gorgeous book from start to finish. I'd give it 100 stars if I could!! I do hope she has many more in this series!!

I love coloring skulls. I really enjoy the type of artwork in this book and I enjoy this artist's darker images. There is a fair amount of variety in here as well. Like other CreateSpace books, the images are printed on light weight, non-perforated paper. The images are single sided, but can easily be cut out of the book for coloring or display. As with most CreateSpace books, I find that for me colored pencils work best with the occasional gel ink pen accent. If using wetter mediums, you will certainly need to put a sheet of paper between pages to avoid bleed through.

I do think I found a Hidden Gem in the coloring book world! Even though this is a relatively thin book at 24 pictures to color it's awesome and well worth the price! It is not clipart or Shutterstock based! It is true artist work from Teri Sherman and boy oh boy does she have an eye and style that I love! It's on your typical create space paper that is thin, one-sided and not perforated. I like to use Crayola and oil pencils to help combat that tooth it has. Took a few of my favorite pictures that I wish I could clear my schedule to color right now. I mean like stop what I'm doing and color!

What can I tell you it's a coloring book The reason I bought it was to take the images and do wood burning and it's worked out perfectly the patterns are pretty cool some are ridiculous I true some of them away but I would recommend it if you're into coloring

I love this book!! Teri has some fantastic designs in this book. Some with flowers, snakes and a variety that everyone can enjoy.

This is a great book for skull lovers.

Born in Sea Gate in the late thirties, I was part of a generation that grew up during World War II and spent many years in Coney Island, even working in Steeplechase as a Barrel Boy at age 12, helping people through the rotating barrel if they fell forward or backward, scooping them and their belongings up and helping them exit the barrel. It was innocent fun.Charles Denson's book, CONEY ISLAND is a treasure trove of the history of Sea Gate, Coney Island, Steeplechase, Luna Park (I saw it burn down in the early forties),complete with archival photos that bring back memories of my youth, bicycling on the famous boardwalk, walking down Mermaid Avenue and the Bowery (seeing some of its freak shows) and riding the Steeplechase Roller Coaster, Horses and the iconic Parachute Jump! What a thrill it was!The book is organized in 3 parts--1. C.I. from 1945-55, 2. The Coming of Age in C.I 1956-1969 and 3. Decline & Comeback of C.I 1970-2000. It is virtually loaded with photos, postal cards, memorabilia and is somewhat autobiographical.My family and I left the Sea Gate-Coney Island area in 1987 during its resurgence and have been back visiting before and after Hurricane Sandy, especially someone we know at the Shorefront Rehab. Center on West 29 St. and Surf Avenue where the Half-Moon Hotel used to stand. I'll never forget the time Jewish gangster Abe Rellis was tossed out of high windowfrom the Half-Moon Hotel when I was a youngster. We now live near Columbia University in Manhattan but all of us have some contact with fellow-Sea Gate-ers. In fact, the original wooden gate shown on p.28 is no more and the private Sea Gate Police Force occupy the Chapel which is still standing today.Whether you lived there or not, I highly recommend to you to buy this terrific book, wonderfully researched and beautifully bound in paperback.Nathan's Famous, famous for its hot dogs and Gargiulo's Italian Restaurant on West 15th Street and Surf Avenue are worth the visit alone for its wealth of culinary fare. And the rides, the roller coaster alone is still as thrilling as it used to be. I still take my grown children to the amusement parks. Too bad Steeplechase is closed and the girders of the towering parachute jump are still standing, unused, but I remember how thrilling it was to grow up there. I even went to Mark Twain JHS and Abraham Lincoln HS with actor Louis Gossett and singer Neil Sedaka and even worked for and met George C. Tilyou, the owner of Steeplechase before it closed!A great book for those of us who lived there and terrific for tourists since the Renaissance of Coney Island has taken place. I recommend you read it first and go for a visit--its one of the last treasures of Brooklyn and always a pleasure to see the Atlantic Ocean and swim on the beaches of CONEY ISLAND. Although his name doesn't ring a "bell", I had to have known the author. In 1963, my family moved into the same NYC "Projects" (i.e. Coney Island Houses) where the author lived. His story is in many ways my story, his outlook on the one and only Coney, my outlook as well. In a borough of giants (well, maybe only "Dodgers"), when Brooklyn *really* WAS the "World", Coney Island was KING! Where else in the world could working-class folk (white, black, Jew and Gentile) live in relative peace and harmony while enjoying the waterfront views millionaires would be envious of?Author Charles Denson hits the right balance with both his superb history of America's original "Playground" and his personal reflections on growing up in the shadow of a myth. Coney *was* changing along with America in the 1960s. Much of the change was harsh and relentless. Poverty and greed bred crime and desolation. Coney Island, more vulnerable than most Brooklyn neighborhoods to the ebbs and flows of capricious fortune, became a victim to the times.The author aptly outlines this decline and recent rejuvenation with such skill that (unlike other "neighborhood" memory/history books) one can "taste" the vitality of the arisen "Phoenix" known as Coney Island.Almost as good as a Nathan's frank and a bag of fries, sitting in a boardwalk "pavillion", watching the summer fireworks. Like many of the other reviewers, I'm a Coney Island native. Unlike them, I grew in Trump Village, located on the border between Coney and Brighton. Growing up in the 1970's and 80's, I'd only heard vague stories about how great Coney used to be.I had always been told that before Trump Village and Warbasse, there used to be nothing but empty land in that area. Thanks to this book, I have finally learned the truth, that there used to be a vital, functioning and even happy lower and middle income neighborhood called the Gut, before Fred Trump, Robert Moses and other developers and politicians came along and destroyed all that. Despite it's controversial beginnings, Trump still ended up being a decent, affordable place for many middle class Jews and Russian immigrants to live. In part, thanks to this book, I'll continue to see the ghosts of the homes, buildings and people who came before.For anyone who is interested in Coney Island or the rise and fall of a city neighborhood, this book is most definitely recommended. And if you grew up in or even near Coney, this book is a must-read.

This is the best book I've ever read on the history Coney Island and I've read every one I could find. It is extremely well researched and written, has incredible photographs and graphics, and a personal story that's moving and deeply felt.Like many of the other reviewers of this book I grew up in the Coney Island area (Brighton First Street). Coney Island has an almost magical draw for me, so much so that I recently completed writing and illustrating a novel called, "Coney Island Book of the Dead" that takes place in 1956. Charles Denson's book proved to be an invaluable source of facts, lore, and pictures, but, even more importantly, of inspiration. If my novel ever gets published (I'm looking for an agent as of 6/08/07) I hope all of you coneyislandaphiles read it.Also, you might also be interested in a new book by Charles Denson called "Wild Ride! A Coney Island Roller Coaster Family." I just ordered it.

Some students are easy to manage. Class flows well and they need only the slightest in adjustments to do what you want/need from them. But what about the others? The ones that respond to "Would you like if someone did that to you?" with "I wouldn't care." This book guides teachers and parents in more effective ways to truly connect and work WITH students to create a plan together that is both realistic and mutually satisfactory. Beyond working with students, this is a way to totally change how you think about problems with ANYone and ways to better work through those problems. I read this book on just a little over a day and would HIGHLY recommend it to everyone.

Excellent book and sound advice. Every teacher, principal and admin should read this. Great for parents who wants to help their children. If your school asks you what they can do to help your child, hand then this book. There is also website you can go to with free information and videos to follow. I'm a fan!

I am not sure what the other negative reviews on this book are about. I have been a fan of Plan B/CPS since Dr. Greene wrote The explosive child. I have worked in the school setting for the past 10 years and I have been able to implement CPS with a lot of persistence and creativity around an extremely academic setting. It has not always been easy, but that is not to fault the CPS process, just how to maneuver around all the needs in a school setting. I am so incredibly grateful that this new book came out. One thing I have found to be the most difficult is explaining this process to teachers and giving them the language to use in these conversations, as they are so use to using Plan A with kids. The language in this book has improved dramatically and I feel as though I can go back to my school with a clear and more direct way of using this with kids. Thank you!

I love this book as an educator, and as a mom. Have read as a book club at my school, and also sent to my sons' school for them to (hopefully) read. Insightful look at behavior & how we can involve children in the process of identifying concerns and finding solutions that work for all. Dr. Greene's ideas just make sense. Highly recommend!

This is such an interesting concept. I would love for schools and families to take up this plan instead of automatically wanting to label or medicate "troubled" students.

Excellent book. As a Grandparent of a child who struggles in adapting in a mainstream school classroom, I am reading 📖s which will help me to help him.

Really well explained and all the resources provided for CPS! Now if I can get my child's school to work this way... I would recommend for parents, teachers (special ed and general ed) and administration in all schools!
