As a long time Christian and Christian worker, I must confess that I can lose touch with the wonder and depth of scripture and the Christian seasons. I don’t like this tendency in myself, but it’s still a repeated pattern.Reading these daily devotions has helped me get past my shallow habits and re-discover the amazing love, grace, and mystery of God during this powerful season of Lent.Thanks, Richard, for your wisdom, honesty, and skill at describing the workings of the heart and mind as we journey with Christ.

I like the fact that each day brought meaty food for thought. Not too long not too short. It lead to self examination. Some things about myself were not very pleasing and some were affirming. I learned about Father Rohr from some members of my Centering Prayer group. I would recommend this book and other books by Father Rohr to anyone who is interested in Centering Prayer or to any one who would like to understand the ups and downs of life and how they affect our journey to self and GOD.

This is the 3rd or 4th year I have used this book as my Lenten meditation base, and I get something new out of it each time. I enjoy reading my highlighted passages anew and seeing how differently they speak to me in the new year, since I am not in the same place I was the year before. Rohr's insights are deeply rooted in current psychotherapy, bridging beautifully the gap between science and true belief in a risen Christ.

I appreciate Richard Rohr's approach to the Christian faith, as well as his well-written exposition of his understandings. I came across this book while reading something else by him. The draw of the book for me was that it was a daily devotional guide for Lent; and using such a volume deepens my experience of the season. As an example of Father Rohr's writing in "Wondrous Encounters," consider these words from his entry for Ash Wednesday: "There are two moments that matter. One is when you know that your one and only life is absolutely valuable and alive. The other is when you know your life, as presently lived, is entirely pointless and empty. You need both of them to keep you going in the right direction. Lent is about both." (p. 9, Kindle edition) If you did not use "Wondrous Encounters" as a guidebook for your Lenten journey this year, I encourage you to consider it for Lent, 2017.

Rohr is a wonderful and inspiring author. His works always get you thinking. He is creative and yet very loyal to his beliefs. He has a gift of expressing an idea in a way that allows the reader to always dig deeper into the topic.

I am a huge fan of Richard Rohr. If you are tired of the same old same old, give him a read. He's so not about cliches, pat answers or status quo. He truly loves God and leads his readers to places they didn't even know existed. One word: FRESH!

Another fantastic spiritual work from Richard Rohr. This truly made a difference in how I journeyed through Lent this year. I was truly sad when I reached the end of the book on Holy Saturday.

This little book is a GREAT resource for Lenten Reflections. I loved the integration of the Bible readings even if they don’t stay current with the aqual liturgical year.

I was extremely skeptical when I first read the title of this book; I assumed it was going to shame me for not being happier in every moment of parenting.I was pleasantly surprised by HOW TO BE A HAPPIER PARENT. It is excellent. KJ is honest about her family's struggles and successes, and transparent about the process that got them there. Her advice is based on research and reality, and her suggestions felt very feasible for busy working parents.Finally, KJ is an excellent writer (no surprise here; she's the former editor and lead writer of the NYTimes Motherlode blog), and this book is super fun and easy to read.I will be recommending this book to all of the parents I work with!

KJ tells it the way it is and not only successfully does that with How to be a Happier Parent, but pulls in other parents who are in various stages of their parenting journey to deliver actionable and reaffirming advice, suggestions and love - delivered in a super enjoyable format. The tone of this book is so much more likable than many parenting books. KJ managed to offer practical advise without making me feel anxious. There were a number of times that I laughed out loud as she described a situation in her own family that is similar to something we have encountered, normalizing the chaos and craziness that comes with family life, especially raising children that are both biological and adopted. It made me feel less alone in the parenting journey. I'm going to give the book to my husband to read. One of my favorite nuggets of wisdom was the idea that you (the parent) can be happy even when your chid is having a hard time. Such a welcome and liberating thought. Well done, KJ!

Want to be a happier parent? Read this book and use some of the practical advice that K.J. dishes out in this enjoyable and informative read. She mixes research, tips, and often funny family anecdotes. This mama of 4 has been there in the trenches. She strives for happiness, not Pinterest perfection. I found her advice on chores, holidays, and homework the most helpful for me. This book would be a fabulous gift for any parent or parent to be. I highly recommend it.

With my son starting back up with soccer this week, I dove straight for the sports section as soon as the book arrived, and I'm so glad I did. I learned that I was doing certain things I thought were "helpful" but were probably actually making him silently miserable. KJ breaks down the top parenting frustration points in such a helpful, down-to-earth and non-judgmental way. And it's written in easily digestible chunks so you can pick it up for a few minutes here or there and learn a little something new. Highly recommend!

I LOVE this book and keep it by my bed table. KJs clear, concise writing make her her insights about parenting in the real 21st century world of iPhones and Snapchat viable. She gives plan courses of action in parenting challenges, and perhaps, most importantly she suggests when to stand down, and let some things go. And that I needed to here! The chapters flow easy, but you'll want to hang out. KJ is the Mom friend you always track down after drop-off to bounce off parenting strategies. Just way funnier and deep, and available after midnight.

I don't know who read this for the audible download but it's almost unbearable to listen to. The book is good but the person who reads it pretty much ruins it. I'd recommend just buying the book and skipping the audible download.

Research-based and beautifully written, this book is full of practical pointers and wisdom that all parents can benefit from. I just received the book this week and have already recommended it to two clients. A must-have for anyone who wants to find more happiness and pleasure in the midst of the parenting adventure.

Just so it is clear...this is a tiny book, like 'size of your palm' sized book..that's the point. Sort of like those miniature books you see while waiting in line at a Barnes & Noble or something, really you are most likely purchasing this for the novelty value (which is why I did), and probably because it's cute/ provides a decent amount of information on the subject. However, if you need some in depth, and I'm talking IN DEPTH info on tea leaf reading, you sort of made a mistake purchasing this, and assuming to get that in this size of a book. This is a fun little book, I used to own a few random ones on various topics as a child i.e: astrology, feng shui, etc. so I figured I would pick something similar up. Really cute though, and it comes with a little min dust cover.

This little book is the cutest and most handy tea reading reference I’ve come across in a while in my Wiccan practice. The interpretations are a little off but for the most part seem accurate. I just really love how small and travel friendly it is.

Bryce's premise is basically, "humans are smart - we'll figure it out, we always do". I agree and enjoyed Bryce's examples of human ingenuity, which he pulls from multiple industries. Bryce makes great points countering what he calls "catastrophists", showing in one example how the "end of oil" has been predicted over and over again for the last hundred years. You'll come away more at ease with the state of the world and a bit more optimistic. Overall I really enjoyed the book but Bryce, who is a self-proclaimed optimist, at times comes off pretty negative when talking about folks he disagrees with, President Obama and Amory Lovins in particular. It's unfortunate since Lovins is another optimist who embraces efficiency and many of the same ideas Bryce promotes. Definitely worth reading - I look forward to reading more of Bryce's books.

Smaller Faster Lighter Denser Cheaper is a fascinating examination of the process and progress of innovation. Author Robert Bryce has picked a wide range of examples, from cellphones and computer chips to steam engines and Tour de France bicycles, explaining how each of these became smaller, faster, lighter, denser or cheaper, and often all of the above. Bryce writes exceptionally well and is able to explain concepts that are quite complex in very readable, easily understandable prose.No concept is more crucial to his narrative that that of density, especially as applied to energy. Thin diffuse sources especially solar, wind and biofuels have become popular with politicians and the media, and are touted as the answers to all energy-related issues. Bryce shows that these energy fads are impractical largely because they all lack density and therefore need enormous spaces to replace even one coal-fired electric power plant. One can only hope that politicians read the book and move toward more effective energy policies as result.While Bryce shows that solar and wind cannot be the answer for the world's energy needs, he does not simply endorse the status quo. In fact, he sees the future of electric power as a shift from coal to natural gas in the near term and eventually from gas to nuclear power (or as he calls it, N2N). Bryce is a technological optimist and he is expecting advances in nuclear energy to make reactors smaller and above all, cheaper in the years ahead. Bryce makes the case for nuclear power effectively. Because nuclear power emits no carbon dioxide, he regards it as the only realistic option that would reduce any consequences from climate change while at the same time providing reliable electricity to people everywhere.So often books about technology are grim tales that foresee potential catastrophe and conflict. I am going through this book with a Church Leadership Coach, and we are also using with that leadership coach in our Church. We've found the book helpful on a couple of fronts: The description of the levels of Leadership has helped us as a Church to understand what it takes to build into people, to develop them and help them influence those around them. The ideas surrounding prioritization has really helped because it has forced the elders and the leadership board of my Church to see what my roles and tasks really are, and where I need to focus on so that they can lead well and we can impact our community. We do find though that the book rests to much on older examples, and doesn't do the job it could do in translating to the 21st century. It is a bit dated and it shows.

Developing the Leader Within You takes a pragmatic approach to covering key leadership topics one by one. Maxwell’s assertion that everything rises and falls with leadership is supported by a foundation of leadership principals including integrity and a focus on people. Each chapter contains at least a few valuable insights and I found the chapters on priorities, change, problem solving and vision particularly useful. My critique is that the book could do a bit more to align principals to specific applications that readers may find relevant. That said, the principals are presented in a manner that they may be applied universally and there’s probably no harm in asking the reader to draw his own applications.
