What a fantastic, practical book to guide Independent Educational Consultants and their students on their college admissions journeys. The subtitle says it all. This is a BLUEPRINT for choosing the Best Schools for you. As a college counselor, I agree that finding "best fit schools" means looking beyond just the most famous brand name schools. The task is overwhelming and this book can help. First, the Preface dispels many myths about the process. I love the many worksheets. I use "Worksheet 1: Self-Survey for the College Bound" (+ MBTI) as part of my intake process to help me "get" my students and figure out how they tick. The book is very thorough. It's a good way for students to keep track of thoughts as priorities and requirements change over the high school years. "Worksheet 10: Application Timetable" is a good tracking sheet. "Worksheet 11: Campus Visit Notes" are great because you can compare notes. Otherwise, after visiting multiple schools, your impressions can become a big blur. "Worksheet 13: Essay Brainstorming" has a nice list of adjectives that can help students write more descriptive essays.

Very helpful. If you and your child use this book together it will help you zero in on the "right" college for them. It really takes the stress out of the college search.

I use this book in my college planning business.

Not helpful. The worksheets lead to nowhere and the advice about how to pick a college, include "talk to your parents" and "check out the college planning apps available for your smartphone". Not worth buying

I had to buy this for school. Repetitive in places, but I think it's a good start for the college bound.

This is a great idea for a tarot card deck. I’m a total GoT nerd and was super excited to get this deck and see what kinds of parallels the creators drew between traditional Tarot archetypes and the magical world of Game Of Thrones. To start off, (much of) the artwork is great, and I love that it all comes in a nice box with an easy-reference guidebook. However, I have to say, I was expecting much more creatively from the conceptual side.There are so many storylines and complexities that happen in the series, I really thought the content of these cards would be more diverse. It felt heavy on Danyerys imagery, which, understandably, she is a very important character. However they could have used more minor characters and scenes to illustrate points just as well. There was no Tywin Lannister, no Dornish princes/queens/kings, no Robb Stark, no Catelyn Stark, no Yara Greyjoy, no Theon Greyjoy, no Bronn of the Blackwater, no Baratheons, no Margaery Tyrell, no Joffrey Baratheon, no Podrick, no Cleganes, no Ser Davos, etc. The houses were all mentioned or illustrated, but it might have been more interesting to really show more of the characters of the houses.Some of the cards also seemed like a stretch, like, was a Son of The Harpy really the best choice for Page Of Swords? Sure, the Sons Of The Harpy were passionate about an idea, but instead of a new idea, they were fighting to keep their old ideas. When I saw the Four Of Coins card, I thought, what even is this from? I mean maybe they could have used Bronn there, since he was all about being paid and improving his situation. On the Eight Of Coins card, it looks like a scene with Gendry, but it’s just a random “apprentice”, like, why not just put Gendry there and connect it directly? I know I’m nerding myself out here, but, it just could have been better.As others have already said, the cards also seem to be made of regular playing cards material, just tarot-sized. Maybe they weren’t sure how well this product would sell, and wanted to keep it as afforable as possible? Who knows.All of my criticisms aside, it is overall a nice deck, and there are some cards that really hit the nail on the head for the concept and art. I think any GoT fan would enjoy it, and be able to understand the mood of the cards.

This tarot set consists of the standard 78 RWS cards. I have attached pictures. Overall I love it. The packaging of the cards is excellent. Very solid box to store the cards and guidebook in. Very classy. Inside the box, you find the cards are on the left and the guidebook on the right.The guidebook looks like a little book. Nicely done. It devotes a full page (sometimes two) for each of the 22 major arcana cards. Unfortunately the minor arcana cards limited to tiny paragraphs jammed onto the same pages (see pic). I have seen this before in other decks, but I was really hoping for full treatment on all cards.My biggest complaint is related to the cards themselves. The artwork is awesome and as a GoT fan I loved the subject matter they chose for the traditional cards. (i.e. Ramsey Bolton as The Devil) My disappointment is with the quality of the cardstock used for the cards. They are really thin. If you plan to actively use your deck, buy another one to put away. I do not think these will last with regular use.Overall I recommend it. Would make a great gift for the GoT fan in your life. For the tarot practitioner just be warned about the thin cardstock. Kudos to the artists involved in this project. It really is a beautiful offering. Thank you!

I am blown away! Two of my biggest passions, Game of Thrones and tarot melded together beautifully and I couldn't be happier with it!So much care went into the packaging to really make it feel like an experience. Opening the box was like opening a gift! The little white book is actually a tiny hardcover book which gave the overall package even more of that GOT rustic feel. The cards themselves are LINEN CARDSTOCK!!! I personally LOVE linen cardstock and I know that it's not a universal feeling. But for me, it was a dream to hold the deck in my hands. I actually could not believe that it was mass produced that way as I usually find linen cardstock is more common in self-published decks which tend to be on the more expensive side. So that was a really pleasant surprise. The cards are the perfect size; not uncomfortably large or smaller than the average tarot card. The imagery is phenomenal. I really feel that they took pivotal characters and scenes from the show and incorporated it really well into the meaning of each card. Obviously there are dozens of scenes that could go well with many of the cards, but what was chosen still made sense to me. There is a somber feel to the deck due to the dark colors used throughout (which can't be escaped, it is GOT after all lol), but it was juxtaposed nicely with the graphic kind of artwork used to create the images.I didn't care too much about spears being used in place of wands, but that is a non-issue for me and something I can easily overlook. I also would have preferred if the deck came with its own smaller box as well. Unless you use bags for your cards, which I do not, you must keep the cards in the large Game of Thrones keepsake box it comes in, as the deck itself did not come in its own box as most mass-produced decks do. But again, that is really a non-issue for me given how blown away I was with not only the packaging of the deck, but the deck itself and the little white "book."This is a wonderful deck for tarot collectors, tarot enthusiasts/readers, and fans of the series. I will say that I have not read the books and have only seen the show, so it was really nice to see the familiar characters/scenes from the show being used in the deck.It was 100% worth the wait!

Having been selecting a lighthouse calendar as a gift for a relative every year for at least 20 years, it was nice to find one with specific local lighthouses. The photos are beautiful and there are other areas to choose from. The calendar is sturdy enough to last all year without drooping or tearing.

The Hoyas, Georgetown University’s men’s basketball team, had taken a one-point lead over their rivals, the Tar Heels from the University of North Carolina. With thirty-two seconds left, Carolina coach Dean Smith called a time-out so he could discuss their next moves with his players.   The team, in their white-and-blue uniforms, gathered around their coach. He knew that Georgetown would carefully guard James Worthy and Sam Perkins, two UNC players who had become big stars. Coach Smith had to decide who else could take a shot at scoring a basket if Worthy and Perkins couldn’t get free from defenders. He thought the team should try to get the ball to Michael.   Michael Jordan was a nineteen-year-old freshman at UNC in 1982. Coach Dean Smith rarely let freshmen play. He thought the first-year students needed to watch and learn—from the bench—before they were ready to play big-time college basketball.   But Michael stood out. He was quick and could jump high. He was tough and energetic. Even better, he loved to work and to learn. He practiced hard and listened to his coaches’ instructions. Coach Smith knew he was different. He put Michael in the starting lineup for the first game of the season, and he stayed there all year.   Now, with seconds left on the clock, Coach Smith was going to trust the team’s chance at a championship to the freshman, Michael Jordan. Everyone knew he had the talent to make the shot. But even more importantly, Michael had the confidence. Some athletes would be scared by this big moment. They might be afraid of making a mistake. And they certainly didn’t want to be the one to lose the game. Michael was another kind of athlete. He wanted to take the shot.   The time-out ended and the players got ready to go back on the court. Their coach had only one thing to say: “Knock it in, Michael.”   The clock started again. The Georgetown players swarmed Worthy and Perkins. Michael waited on the other side of the court. With fifteen seconds left, Jimmy Black passed the ball to him. Michael caught it and jumped in the air. The ball left his hands and sailed sixteen feet to the basket.  It swished in and the Tar Heels took a one-point lead. The crowd roared.   Georgetown had time to make another shot, but their players couldn’t seem to score. The clock ticked down to zero. The UNC Tar Heels were the 1982 college basketball champions!   After the game, Michael told a reporter that he hadn’t felt any pressure. It was just another jump shot.   That was the very first game-winning shot made by Michael Jordan. It was far from the last. He would go on to win six NBA championships and two Olympic gold medals. He was named Most Valuable Player five times and played on fourteen All-Star teams. Many people consider him the greatest basketball player ever and one of the greatest athletes of all time.     Chapter 1: Too Short      Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 17, 1963. His parents, James and Deloris, were both from North Carolina. James had moved the family to New York so that he could go to school. Michael had an older brother, James, known as Ronnie, and a sister, Deloris, called Sis. Another brother, Larry, was just a year older than him. The family returned to North Carolina when Michael was five months old. His sister Roslyn was born the next year.   In a family of five children, Michael wanted to be the center of attention. He danced, sang, told jokes, and played tricks. Sis said he always loved to have an audience.    The Jordans moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, when Michael was five so they could be closer to James’s job at a General Electric plant. James loved baseball. He taught Michael and Larry to play as soon as they could hold a bat. Soon they were playing in Little League. As they got older, they also became interested in basketball. Their father put up a basketball hoop for the boys. And later he built a court for them.   When Michael was nine, he watched the 1972 Olympic gold medal basketball game between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Americans lost. Michael told his mother, “I’m going to be in the Olympics one day and I’m going to make sure we win.”   Michael and Larry played against each other any chance they could get. Michael adored Larry and looked up to him, but he always wanted to beat him when they played.   Everyone agreed that Larry was a fantastic athlete. He was very strong and quick. Most people thought that Larry could have been a star basketball player. But there was one problem—everyone expected basketball players to be tall and Larry was short.   But Michael kept growing. Soon he was taller than Larry. He became an outstanding baseball player. At age twelve, he was named the state’s most valuable player after his Little League team won the state championship.   He kept getting better at basketball, too. In 1977, Michael entered the ninth grade. Every morning, he came to the gym before school to practice basketball with his friend Leroy Smith. Michael was about five feet, seven inches tall. Leroy was a whole foot taller! But Michael was fast and could jump high. They had both made the middle school team. In one game, the team scored fifty-four points. Michael scored forty-four of them!   In 1978, Michael and Leroy began their sophomore year at Laney High School. They both tried out for the varsity basketball team. Leroy made it and Michael didn’t. Later, the coaches said that they knew how good Michael was. But height is important in basketball. And the coaches felt that they needed someone tall like Leroy to compete with other teams.   But Michael didn’t know the truth. He only knew that he hadn’t made the team. He went home and cried alone in his room. He thought about quitting, but his mother encouraged him to stick with it. Michael took her advice and played with the junior varsity team during his first year at Laney. He worked hard and put on a show, averaging twenty-eight points per game. It was obvious how talented he was on the court.   Michael was worried, though. He wanted to have great skills and to be taller. He prayed every day. He hung from a bar, hoping to stretch himself out. By age sixteen, Michael was five feet ten. That was taller than most people in the Jordan family. It seemed unlikely he would grow much more than that.   Then one day, a cousin came to visit the Jordans. He was six feet seven! Suddenly Michael had hope—there were taller people than him in the family after all!   Michael had another worry as his sophomore year wore on. He had constant pain in his knees. His doctor took X-rays of Michael’s legs and discovered good news. The X-rays showed that he was growing fast and had a lot more growing to do. The pain was probably related to his rapid growth.   When he returned to school for his junior year in the fall of 1979, Michael was six feet three and still growing. He easily made the varsity team. Michael was offered two jersey numbers. He chose twenty-three because he hoped to be half as good a player as his brother Larry who wore number forty-five.   Now he had the height to match his skills. And people beyond his high school were beginning to notice.

My fifth grader loves everything about basketball, so he loves reading this book. He is typically not much of a reader, so we have to find books that interest him. This book definitely caught his interest. He wouldn’t put it down. Great book about Michael Jordan with a lot of awesome facts and info. He learned a lot of things he hadn’t known. This entire series is awesome...definitely recommend this series.

Kenneth Pennington is Kelly-Quinn Professor of Ecclesiastical and Legal History at the Catholic University of America. He is the author of numerous works including Pope and Bishops: The Papal Monarchy in the Twelfth and Thirteenth Centuries and The Prince and the Law, 1200-1600: Sovereignty and Rights in the Western Legal Tradition, and is coeditor of the CUA Press series, History of Medieval Canon Law. Wolfgang P. Müller, associate professor of history at Fordham University, is author or editor of several publications in English and German including Huguccio: The Life, Works, and Thought of a Twelfth-Century Jurist. Mary E. Sommar, currently a scholar in residence at the Stephan Kuttner Institute of Medieval Canon Law in Munich (Germany), concentrates in her published work on Gratian's Decretum.
