Catching a glimpse into a world so foreign to many and sadly known to too many. I had a sense similar to watching a horror movie and shouting "No no no" watching the way Lily was molded and manipulated by her pedophile father. It's amazing she found the strength and courage to stop the cycle, especially with the lack of a true support system. Although her daughter may not realize the significance of that fact, it is a remarkable feat indeed. Lily is an amazing example showing how to overcome adversities one should never have to face. And you don't have to be defined by your past!
Such a truthful story about the lifelong imprint abuse has on a child. For those that have not experienced abuse, this book will help you understand the manipulation and evil that will continue to be part of families until someone is brave enough to stop the abuse, and brave enough to learn to love themselves.
What a journey you took us on, Lily! I appreciate the author’s willingness to share her abuse and the details of what her life was like being under the spell of a pedophile. Most of us can’t imagine why kids can’t see the manipulation or the intent of a molester, but Lily helps us see what it’s like from the other side; she lived it. What’s positive about her book is that she sought help and not only took a major step to deal with her father, but took a huge step to help herself. Her story of her therapy shows all of us that there is healing after a traumatic childhood experience, but it takes dedication and time to come out the other side. Good going, Lily, you are courageous and an inspiration to others who may have had similar struggles that you have shared with your readers.
Ordered this book because I wanted to understand my own mother’s trials, and I’m so glad I did. What a story. It was rather doom and gloom up until her recovery started, but her path to ending the madness seems authentic and commendable. So many stories don’t end like hers. Bravo.
You must have a strong stomach to read this and a open mind. Book is a good read but the thought this is a true story is by far disturbing.
This book is really close to home for survivors of abuse. It mirrors some things that happened in my childhood and not only helped me to understand some of the patterns my abusers had, it gives me hope for my future. The courage that you had to tell your story is absolutely outstanding, Lily.
Definitely an adventure of a story with a triumph in the end. Very moving!!! I had to put the book down a few times and come back to it because it was so intense and inspiring.
