Perhaps one of the best short science fiction stories ever written. I have compared this version to two others. One audio version was recorded by Isaac Asimov himself. In that rendition Asimov shows through his own inuendo and vocal tones that the story really was written to appeal to young minds interested in scientific thinking. He adjusts his voice pitch to play various roles, some in a silly way, others in a very serious philosophical way. He does it very playfully though. And if that's how the author imagines his own story to sound, I find this dramatic version very much in line with it. Parts are serious, but the story is a very playful way of forcing everyone to confront reality. Just like people we all know today, the story has characters who dont trust science, or who assume that science can solve problems by sheer smartness, but without using the scientific method of questioning all things. Its very clever, like a Hans Christian Anderson faerie tale, but about physics, the big bang, and evolution, instead of magic kingdoms.I have also heard and seen another version of this story, produced for star shows in planetariums, perhaps made in the late 1970s. The graphics back then were good for the technology and budgets available at that time. But i also seem to recall hearing a radio broadcast of that starshow, but obviously without the visuals.What this tells me is that this is a great story. To really appreciate it, go into a quiet room, turn off all the lights. Remove all distractions, and listen in darkness.Do this, and you may change your thinking habits forever. Is there such a thing as "forever"? Listen to the story...
The music is distracting and overpowers the story. I absolutely love this short story and it would be great if it existed in another audio format. But it is just impossible to listen too this way.
The story is a classic and my favorite Asimov short story, but this production has too much dead air that was probably commercial space left in it. Could be edited to about 30 minutes and be great.
